A cross-generational comparison of smartphone addiction among Gen X and Gen Y smartphone users in Malaysia

This study reported the prevalence of smartphone addiction among Gen X and Y in Sarawak, Malaysia. compared two generations, Y, on addictive behaviour. It is important to understand their smartphones. Two hundred thirty-six participants were recruited using a Facebook advertisement, consisting 122 males 114 females aged 16 55. The scale-malay (SAS-M) was used assess addiction. data analysed IBM SPSS. result shows that more addicted than for all components SAS-M, but there no significant difference between female male users both generations usage. In addition, cyberspace-oriented relationship Y. Furthermore, had lost control use smartphones X, which reflects overuse primacy lead daily life disturbances. Positive anticipation withdrawal also observed generations. conclusion, behaviour, implying compulsive user X. this behaviour provide an intervention measure ensure will not become psychological issue. improve mental health wellbeing.
